Manufacturer's Description

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 is an ultra-slim digital camera that combines Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and Smile Shutter technology with the convenience of a portable photo album. Take your entire photo library with you and share your pictures on the dazzling, ultra bright 3.5-inch high resolution touch-screen LCD display.

Cyber-shot DSC-T700 Highlights

10.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD image sensor
A powerful 10.1-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch Super HAD CCD image sensor helps you capture gorgeous images with superb contrast and clarity down to the finest detail. With 10.1 megapixels, you can create stunning, photo-quality prints up to A3 size, or crop your images and still come away with high-resolution shots.

3.5-inch Xtra Fine LCD touch-screen display
Compose images on a dazzling 3.5-inch LCD display and use the touch screen to navigate menus, specify focus points, and more. When you've finished shooting, show off your images with spectacular clarity. Featuring 921K pixels, the ultra-bright, high-contrast LCD screen with a wide viewing angle is among the highest resolution screens available on a compact digital camera, and displays your images with astonishing visual clarity.

Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x optical zoom lens
The newly-developed Carl Zeiss Vario- Tessar lens enables close-up shooting up to just under 1/2-inch (1cm) from the subject (in Magnifying Glass Mode), while the optical 4x telescopic zoom offers superior visual acuity for a compact digital camera.

BIONZ imaging processor
The BIONZ Imaging Processor delivers the high resolution and fast performance you expect from a Sony digital camera.

Ultra-slim design
The DSC-T700 packs a lot of performance into an ultra-slim design. Measuring just over 5/8-inch (16.4mm), the DSC-T700 is slim enough to slip into a pocket, so you can take it with you wherever you go.

Face Detection technology
Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and controls flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to deliver accurate, natural skin tones with reduced red-eye for beautiful images of family and friends. Face Detection can even distinguish between children and adults, so you can prioritize the camera’s focus on children in the scene for clear images of their memorable moments.

Smile Shutter technology
The popular Smile Shutter technology automatically detects and captures smiling faces. Simply choose the Smiley Face feature and the camera will capture a smile the moment it happens. You can also select subject priority (Adult or Child Priority or touch subject on screen) and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity to high (small smile), medium (laugh) or low (grin).

Double Anti-blur Solution
The combination of Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and High ISO sensitivity helps compensate for shaky hands, minimizes blur and allows flash-free shooting to preserve the mood.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality.

High Sensitivity ISO 3200
High ISO allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take pictures indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. In addition to High Sensitivity Mode (ISO), you can select up to eight ISO settings (Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) when shooting in Program Auto Mode to adjust sensitivity to your shooting conditions.

Intelligent Scene Recognition
Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects eight different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a Tripod, Portrait, Landscape and Macro. iSCN has 2 modes: Advanced and Auto. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advance Mode, the camera takes a picture with the current settings and only if necessary takes a second picture with optimized setting.

Dynamic Range Optimizer Standard and Plus
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to determine the best exposure and contrast settings for almost any shooting environment. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees. DRO is particularly effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with a dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. DRO Plus allows for even greater optimization by analyzing each region of an image and performing additional image processing.

Customer Reviews

Very nice small camera5
Has incredible features for small camera. Took a while to learn most of features but very easy to use (touch screen) Wife loves it. Thin, fits in handbag nicely. good zoom range, clear well exposed pictures

Great features, easy to use, solid design!5
I just got this camera, and it's fantastic!! The touch screens on some of the older or less expensive Cybershot models go all funky-colored when you press on them, but this model's touch screen is much sturdier- no wavy color effects when you press on it. It also comes with a 4G memory, which equals about 1000 photos at the 10MP setting and over 1500 at the 5MP setting!!

My favorite feature is the way the battery charges. It's a little rectangular battery that you slide out of the camera and insert into a dock with a flip-out outlet plug. You don't have to plug the camera itself into anything, which is fantastic for a camera as slim as this! What makes this such a spectacular feature for me is that my last camera (a Casio Exilim) came with a dock that you set the entire camera in. After about a year and a half, the dock was damaged, making it impossible to either charge my camera or transfer photos to my computer. When I went to get a new dock, however, Casio no longer made any docks that were compatible with my camera, and the only place I could find a compatible dock was on eBay in Hong Kong for a price that was far above what the dock was worth. With this camera, I don't have to worry about the camera itself becoming unusable simply because one of its accessories is damaged.

Another feature I like is the focus. You can touch the screen wherever you want the camera to focus, rather than the camera automatically focusing on the middle of the shot.

And the image stabilization really does work! On the drive home from the store I took a picture out the window, and while the outside images were a bit fuzzy, the reflection on the window was perfectly in focus- while the vehicle was in motion! Most cameras would just get confused and make it all blurry. That really impressed me.

One of the other complaints about some of the previous touch-screen models is that one's right thumb would rest on the upper right side of the screen and accidentally keep hitting the buttons there. This camera has a bit of a buffer in the form of a ribbed strip of plastic about 1/4" wide, providing a place to rest your thumb off of the screen.

And gosh, this camera is just so stylish and sharp!! I love it!!

Great deal!!5

Cyber-shot DSC-T70 Highlights

High Performance

Breakthrough technology for instant brilliance! Take superb portraits, capture beautiful smiles, and zoom into action with Cyber-shot advances.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 features and highlights

Produce clear, crisp portraits every time with Face Detection Whenever you shoot portraits of family members and friends, you can count on clear reproduction of faces whether subjects are perfectly still or moving slightly. Sony’s advanced Face Detection technology synergizes with Bionz to deliver highly precise, high-speed auto-focusing of up to 8 subjects’ faces when shooting portraits. This synergy ensures quick camera tracking of subjects, even when faces are slightly in motion, and significantly improves the performance of various camera features. For example, it enhances Sony’s original auto white balance and skin color control to prevent mistaken estimates of the luminous source (resulting in a reddish image) and mistaken correction of face color. It also improves exposure (including AE) and flash adjustment to prevent under/over exposure of your subject’s face and ensure suitable brightness. These improvements in turn help prevent blackout and whiteout in the subject’s face caused by exposure and flash settings optimised for the background. Moreover, red-eye reduction automatically activates when Face Detection is ON. Together, these advances enable instant analysis of image data and optimization of exposure and tone according to the scene. All Face Detection features work together to deliver ideal portraits every time.

Meet Smile Shutter -- the first photo feature that knows how to capture smiles For the first time in digital still camera history, you can capture joyous moments that used to get away! Whenever Face Detection finds a face, the unique new Smile Shutter mode spots a smile. Simply activate Smile Shutter, and the camera takes a picture -- automatically! Using Sony’s proprietary algorithm, this innovative intelligent auto shutter system responds actively to smiling faces. To start, just choose Smile Shutter from Scene Selection, then press the shutter fully on the subject to be taken; the camera automatically detects the smiling face and closes the shutter. To detect the different degrees of smiles by your subject, you can set Smile Level sensitivity to "high" (to detect a faint smile), "medium" (for a normal smile), or "low" (for a hearty laugh). If there are several subjects in the frame, you can use the Touch Screen to specify the smiling face you want to take as the main subject -- or let the Smile Shutter choose the main subject and take the picture. Moreover, the Smile Shutter is great for taking horizontal as well as vertical pictures -- including group pictures where everybody is smiling, and self-portrait shots that automatically catch spontaneous smiles at the right moment. Think of the countless smiles you never want to miss -- a child’s innocent grin, joyful faces of family and friends, your own happy face in travel photos -- and use Smile Shutter to turn good times and good feelings into treasured shots. Time after time, you’ll smile at the results!

Enjoy 8.1 megapixels of exquisite detail Sony's acclaimed 8.1 megapixel Super HAD CCD offers high-resolution performance in compact dimensions, as well as numerous advances available only from the world’s leading CCD manufacturer. For example, an advanced sensor configuration reduces the gaps between microlenses so that each sensor captures more light for brighter, more accurate images with less noise. Clear, faithful image reproduction is now yours to enjoy.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 features and highlights

Sharpen your edge with the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens The DSC-T70 gives your images the startling accuracy and extra emotional impact of a highly renowned Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens. Originally designed in Germany, this high-contrast lens delivers natural clarity without distortion or noise. It’s just the right complement to Sony’s high-resolution CCD and 3x optical zoom.

The DSC-T70’s 3x optical zoom, together with smooth, seamless zooming from 1x to 15x, expands your photographic possibilities. You can capture magnificent scenes at the 1x setting, zoom closer with perfect clarity using 3x optical zoom, attain 5.1x zooming at high-definition quality with HD Smart Zoom (16:9), or focus on minute details like faraway flowers with 15x Smart Zoom (VGA). Whether you’re photographing natural scenes or capturing the facial expressions of distant loved ones, the DSC-T70’s powerful zooming capabilities let you make the most of memorable shutter opportunities.

You can even zoom faraway subjects up close when recording movies with the new T series. The maximum 3x optical zooming power is equivalent to that of many DV camcorders and captures movies that are just as impressive.

Sony boosts your photographic potential with Bionz The cutting-edge Bionz imaging processor, first introduced on the Sony a digital single-lens reflex camera, is now available on a Cyber-shot. Bionz takes advantage of Sony’s accumulated imaging technology to digitally process the high-resolution image data from the 8.1-megapixel CCD at high speeds and deliver dynamically clear, high-resolution images with natural color reproduction and minimal noise. It’s a level of precision unheard of in small cameras.

Optimize the dynamic range of your images automatically D-Range optimization employs a sophisticated image analysis algorithm originally developed by Sony to automatically determine the best exposure and contrast settings for optimal dynamic range in almost any shooting environment. In this way, the DRO gives your images a natural look with clearer details that match what you see with your naked eye. This is especially effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. For example, the details of stained glass in a high-rise cathedral can be captured along with the deep blue sky.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 features and highlights

A clearly better solution: Double "Anti-blur" Sony’s Double "Anti-blur" Solution reduces blur in your images -- both subject shake blur and camera shake blur -- through an intelligent combination of Sony’s original Super SteadyShot optical image stabilizer and high sensitivity shooting up to ISO3200. These features are highly effective at reducing blur even when shooting fast-moving subjects and portraits in dimly lit rooms. The gratifying results are extremely clear images every time you shoot.

High Sensitivity suppresses subject shake blur When environmental lighting is dim, such as inside a room or outdoors at twilight, the high-sensitivity ISO3200 setting lets you achieve natural results without using a flash -- even if the subject moves. Blur is reduced and details are clear in the subject and background, so you can take full advantage of the camera’s 8.1-megapixel resolution.

Super SteadyShot minimizes camera shake blur Camera shake blur, a common byproduct of handheld shooting, is effectively reduced by the Super SteadyShot optical image stabilizer. This feature employs a built-in gyro sensor that detects camera shake and a shift lens unit that compensates to help prevent blur. As a result, images are clearer in various circumstances, such as when shooting photos in dimly lit rooms.

Touch Ease

Photo flair at your fingertips! Just touch the wide LCD screen for stunning pictures with unequalled Cyber-shot ease.

And, thanks to use of an analogue interface and miniaturised components, this large-sized LCD is big enough for shared viewing, enabling you to enjoy photos with your friends and family. Stamina and quick response The DSC-T70 extends your shooting pleasure with enough battery power for approx. 270 shots per charge. Sony’s highly-efficient Bionz imaging processor accelerates start-up time and reduces power consumption. Thanks to the convenient combination of quick start up time, improved shutter time lag, and long-lasting battery power, users miss fewer photo opportunities when travelling, at sporting events and everywhere they go. The camera can also be adapted to continuous shooting and start-up time is approximately 1.4 seconds.

When the memory stick reaches full capacity, or even if there is no Memory Stick in your camera, you can still store images in approx. 31MB of internal memory. You’ll appreciate this feature when you forget to bring your optional Memory Stick Duo or simply take more photos than you were expecting to shoot. Photos in internal memory can easily be copied to Memory Stick Duo.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 features and highlights

Print your photos directly from the camera You can easily print directly from the camera without using a PC. Just insert the memory card in a Sony DPP-FP70 or DPP-FP90 digital photo printer, select images on the high quality color LCD, and print away! Or when using any PictBridge compatible printer, just connect it to Cyber-shot via USB cable, select images on Cyber-shot’s LCD, and print! As for DPP-FP90/70 print quality, with Sony’s unique new function, Auto Touch-Up, memorable shots marred by such problems as red eye, backlight, or focus are saved from the trash simply by pressing the pink Auto Touch-Up button. Automatically correcting these problems is one way the DPP-FP90/FP70 printers give you the strikingly beautiful prints you expect.

PC organization with Motion Picture Browser Sony’s advanced image management software, Picture Motion Browser, comes bundled with your Cyber-shot DSC-T70. Once installed in your PC, this software automatically organizes the images you upload from your Cyber-shot by date in a calendar format for easy searching. Basic features such as photo CD/DVD burning, adding dates to JPEG snapshots, and resizing images for transfer to Memory Stick have been improved for easier operation. And if you add an optional Sony GPS unit, the software’s advanced Map View function can even automatically organize your holiday photos according to where they were shot and display them where they belong on a world map that indicates the latitude and longitude.

Customer Reviews

Not for Professional Photographers5
1. This is not a camera for professional photographers. This IS a camera for those who take lots of outdoor shots, those who like the convenience of a small camera, and those who like Sony.

2. This is not a great camera for indoors/low light conditions. This is a great camera for action shots (when placed on the right settings).

3. I LOVE this camera for what I do, which is a lot of close up still life type shots. It hooks up to my HDTV and plays the most beautiful slideshows I've ever seen. The 8mp may be too much for some, but I tend to print large scale photos from my digital files, and the 8mp is PERFECT for me.

4. Being a Sony person, I have several MS Duo sticks laying around. Anyone who's got a kid with a PSP will know these aren't obsolete. I like the fact that the MS Duo isn't tiny, like some of the SD kin. I hate fubmling for a teeny-tiny little card and being afraid I'm going to lose it. I don't have that problem with this camera.

5. I really, really love the touch screen. It's big, beautiful, clear and responsive. I did put a screen protector on it as soon as I had it in my hands, so that it wouldn't get scratched. But it's stood up to 6 yr old hands many times without damage.

6. This camera is a great size for a 'Mom on the go' because it slips into a purse or back pocket very easily. The internal zoom has got to be one of the coolest things ever. I love that I can get the shot when others with their standard zooms can not.

7. All in all I would most certainly recommend this camera. It takes a little while to play with the settings and learn how to use it, but it's well worth it. It takes great photos, has a great form factor, and is very reliable.

GOOD digital camera4
Excellent camera but it takes some time to learn to used it. Some users may get poor quality photos. There are other cameras cheaper and easier to use to obtain good pics. But there are few cameras so good looking. I recommend try it before buy it to decide if is what you want.

So cute, but definitely not a good value.3
I bought this camera 1 year ago. I thought that because it was Sony and was expensive, it would be a good camera. I also loved the sleek design and the large LCD touch screen. Although this camera isn't terrible, there are definitely better out there (and for less $!). I have a 1 year old and thanks to this camera I have missed out on some special moments. I've been surprised to find that pictures that look good on the LCD screen are in fact blurry, something you don't always notice until you upload them to your computer. Here are the good and bad things I've noticed with this camera over the last year.
Pros:
-Large, crisp LCD screen
-Pictures taken outdoors can come out beautifully!
-Battery charge lasts a decent amount of time
-Sleek, slim design is eye-catching takes up little room in your bag
-You can hook it up to your TV for a slide show (which you can add music to by uploading the music to your camera)
-You can draw on your pics using the stylus and you can add 'stamps' to pics, too
-You can remove red eye and crop photos right there on the camera!

Cons:
-Although the touch screen was appealing at first, it's more of a pain. It gets so dirty, and the menu is ridiculous. You have to go through way too many options just to review your pics.
-The lens is in an awkward place...if you're used to holding your camera with two hands while you take a pic, it's very likely that one of your fingers is going to be in your picture!
-You must use SONY everything...not convenient if you happen to want or need a new battery.
-This camera uses memory stick pro duo rather than a plain old sd card...more $$$
-Pics taken in lighting that is not absolutely PERFECT will most likely come out burry or dark. The flash doesn't always know when to go off when in auto mode
-For some reason, I often can see dust in my pictures because the light from the flash reflects off of it somehow
-It takes a while to focus in order to get a clear pic, not good for someone trying to take pics of a busy toddler
-Shutter speed could be faster
-Face detection is hit or miss, and without it most pics of my son come out blurry
-Smile shutter was completely useless for me b/c it really only detects huge, cheesy smiles that you wouldn't want a picture of anyway

That's all I can think of. I just went today and purchased a Canon SD790IS and I hope I will be pleased with that camera. I would never buy a Sony camera again...it was way too expensive and the fancy features don't make up for the bad picture quality.

Amazing camera, cutedge technology, Fast and Good shipping and handling, amazing price, the best deal. Is a just released item and already has a $50.00 drop on price. Couldn't be better.

Editorial Reviews

Manufacturer Description
With 8.1-megapixel resolution and a host of new high-tech features, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W90 camera is a perfect way to capture and relive the magic of life -- even shooting in low light without flash to preserve the mood. Powered by an advanced Bionz processing engine, new capabilities like Face Detection, in-camera retouching and red-eye reduction, D-Range Optimization, and 9-Point AF enhance performance. The HD output lets you share memories with spectacular high-definition clarity and impact on compatible HDTV screens -- and HD Slide Show with Music makes sharing your photos even more entertaining.

Cyber-shot DSC-W90 Highlights

8.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD With more megapixels than most digital cameras, the DSC-W90 captures greater image definition so you can make big prints and tight crops without losing detail. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens A top-quality Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens design helps the DSC-W90 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots quickly for better composition -- a real advantage for family sports, outdoor fun, and travel photos.

Face detection By automatically controlling focus, exposure, color and flash, this new Sony feature reveals faces in shadow, makes skin tones look more natural and eliminates harsh facial glare -- to help bring out every expression on every face in every shot, so you’ll capture the personalities and emotions that make memories come alive.

The Sony Double Anti-Blur Solution With Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and high sensitivity (ISO 3200), the DSC-W90 compensates for shaky hands, minimizes blur, brightens images and allows flash-free shooting to preserve the mood -- with Sony Clear RAW Noise Reduction to take care of the picture noise that can ruin low-light shots.

HD output Thanks to Sony, your photo album can go high-def -- with direct HD output to compatible HDTV screens, so you can view DSC-W90 still photos in spectacular high-definition clarity and detail. Your life never looked so exciting!
Note: HD output requires an optional Sony HD connector cable; HDTV sold separately

HD slide show with music It’s the high-definition viewing experience that makes photos come alive on compatible HDTV screens, accompanied by your choice of visual effects and any of four preset musical selections stored in memory or your favorite MP3 tunes downloaded from PC to your camera for use as background music.

9-Point Auto Focus Because an off-center subject can make your shot more interesting, the DSC-W90 can measure auto-focus precision at 9 points on your screen -- giving you greater creative freedom to compose your image.

D-Range Optimization Powered by the exclusive Sony Bionz high-speed processing engine, D-Range Optimization preserves image data in bright highlights and reveals more detail in shadows or backlit areas -- for great results even in difficult lighting conditions.

In-camera retouching The DSC-W90 lets you add creative effects to photos after you shoot -- including soft edge filter to soften backgrounds, cross filter to place starry "dazzles" at highlight points, partial color filter to mute surrounding colors, even fish-eye filter to create interesting fish-eye lens effects.

In-camera red-eye reduction Irritating "glowing eyes" can ruin even the most creative photos -- so the DSC-W90 provides in-camera correction at the touch of a button to reduce lingering red-eye effect that other systems might miss.

Large 2.5-inch LCD screen The DSC-W90 provides a large, bright LCD screen for composing shots, checking results, sharing your photos on location -- and an optical viewfinder allows shooting in traditional rangefinder camera style.

Simple setup controls A quick press of the Home button opens your user-friendly GUI -- and you can select functions by simply moving a cursor vertically or horizontally to the appropriate icon. Function names and the on-screen Function Guide display make it easier to learn camera setup operations.

31 MB internal memory The DSC-W90 allows you to capture a large number of images without a flash memory card, so it’s great for traveling or for quick candid snapshots.

Memory Stick Duo Media convenience A built-in slot accepts optional Memory Stick Duo media or Memory Stick Pro Duo media -- the compact, high-capacity storage media that make it easily to upload photos to your computer or make lab-quality prints at home on your Sony Picture Station digital printer (sold separately).

15X Smart Zoom Feature The Sony Smart Zoom feature intelligently "crops into" the central portion of interest in your photo, avoiding the image degradation of other digital zooms.

MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode Captures VGA (640 x 480) audio/video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second), with length limited only by the capacity of your media.

Stamina battery power The DSC-W90 provides up to 350 shots with a fully-charged NP-BG1 Lithium-ion battery -- enough shooting capacity to cover a long weekend or a whole vacation.

Picture Motion browser software Supplied software makes it easier to upload, organize and search photos on your PC -- and provides a convenient map view function to sort photos by location and display their origin on a world map by using an optional GPS unit.

Great for stills but not action shots4
Don't let my title fool you - I love this camera. It takes wonderful still pictures that come out clear and beautiful. But whenever I attempt to take a night picture without flash or of a moving object, they come out blurry. I have tried using the different settings but I still can not get the pictures to come out in focus. The battery last a very, very long time and extremely user friendly in regards to menu features and uploading to PC.

Excellent camera5

Sony Cybershot DSCW90 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and Super Steady Shot (Black)
Excellent camera

Great Item5
Sony's has never failed to impress me. I recently owned the W70 and loved it and i love this.

The pictures are good and the in-camera features and modifications are well placed.

The pictures are great and video is great and the camera is pretty stylish.

Cons: You can't zoom in with the camera in video mode but it's alright since the last W70 didn't have that feature too but it would've been nicer if it did. The button lags a little bit when i try to view the picture but no big deal.

Great Camera and Great Deal.

Cyber-shot DSC-T300 Highlights

10.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD More megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens 5x optical zoom gives you the power to get even closer to the action -- a real benefit for distant landscape views and dramatic portraits.

3.5-inch widescreen Clear Photo LCD Plus display A huge 3.5-inch widescreen Clear Photo LCD Plus LCD display includes an anti-reflective coating that provides for excellent visibility to help you compose, view, and share photos with superb clarity and color reproduction, even in bright sunlight.

15 MB internal memory Even if you forget your flash memory card, you can get the shot because 15 MB internal memory lets you capture a limited number of shots with in-camera convenience, then easily transfer your shots to a PC or optional Memory Stick Duo media.

Memory Stick Duo media convenience A built-in slot accepts optional Memory Stick Duo media or Memory Stick Pro Duo media -- the compact, high-capacity storage media that make it easily to upload photos to your PC and are compatible with millions of devices worldwide.

16:9 High-Resolution mode In addition to the standard 2-megapixel size, the convenient 16:9 aspect ratio shooting mode for HDTV 3display can now be shot in 7-megapixels, making it possible to obtain beautiful, high-definition prints with the same aspect ratio as HDTV.

HDTV compatibility High-resolution images can be enjoyed in all their beauty simply by connecting the camera directly to a Sony Bravia HDTV or other compatible HDTV. This provides an excellent alternative to viewing photos as prints or on a computer monitor, and is ideal for users who want to share photos in the comfort of their living room. Optional HD solutions include a Cyber-shot cradle/charger with component cable output, or component cable directly to your HDTV.

Automatic Macro shooting Standard Auto Focus now covers the macro focus range, eliminating the need to manually change focus modes for close-up photography. The Macro mode has not been eliminated, and enabling it accelerates Auto Focus when shooting at point-blank range.

Burst mode You can fire off three shots automatically at 1-second intervals (VGA standard mode) or 2-second intervals (full resolution mode) -- a great way to capture a child’s first steps or a pet’s best tricks.

Convenient Photo modes To adjust quickly for specific shooting situations, you can choose from several convenient photo modes, including Auto, Program Auto, and Scene Selections such as Twilight, Landscape, Soft Snap, Snow, High Sensitivity, and Beach environments.

Dynamic Range Optimization Powered by the exclusive Sony Bionz high-speed processing engine, Dynamic Range Optimization preserves image data in bright highlights and reveals more detail in shadows or backlit areas -- for great results even in difficult lighting conditions.

Easy image management To help you find the right image among many, Date View mode and Favorites mode have been added to the standard Folder View. Date View mode displays a calendar view, while Favorites mode shows only user-selected images. Furthermore, you can filter photos by face types such as portrait, child, baby, and smile.

Easy Shooting mode A simplified camera environment especially attractive to beginners or digital camera users who want to keep things simple, Easy Shooting provides easy-to-read, on-screen instructions and limits the number of camera settings to help prevent misuse of the camera while still providing excellent results.

Enhanced Paint function In-camera retouching continues with the ability to "paint" decorative borders or graphic stamps like hearts, stars, arrows, and hand drawn words or symbols to add charm and fun to photos you save, print, or send via e-mail (Internet connection required).

Face Detection Face Detection technology automatically controls focus, exposure, color, and flash to help reveal faces in shadows, make skin tones look more natural, reduce red-eye, and eliminate harsh facial glare, so your photos bring out every expression on every face in every shot.

Function Guide This beginner-friendly function helps manage various functions and settings by displaying the description of chosen functions or settings on the LCD screen. The Function Guide can also be switched off.

HD Slide Show with music It’s the high-definition viewing experience that makes photos more entertaining to watch, accompanied by your choice of visual effects and any of four preset musical selections stored in memory or your favorite music downloaded from PC to your camera for use as background music.

High Sensitivity (ISO 3200) mode With high sensitivity of ISO 3200, you can shoot effectively in low light without flash to preserve the mood, while the Sony Clear RAW Noise Reduction system helps suppress the color noise that can degrade low-light shots.

In-camera retouching Add creative effects to photos after you shoot using any of 10 editing functions, including: Trimming, Red-Eye adjustment, Soft Focus filter, Unsharp Mask, Cross filter, Partial Color filter, Fish-eye filter, Retro, Radial Blur and Happy Face. The Happy Face effect uses photo retouching to put a smile on faces, with smile levels adjustable from 1 to 5.

In-camera red-eye reduction Irritating "glowing eyes" can ruin even the most creative photos, but in-camera red eye reduction corrects your photos at the touch of a button to reduce lingering red-eye effect that other systems might miss.

Intelligent Scene Recognition mode Intelligent Scene Recognition mode automatically detects six different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera setting: Backlight, Backlight & Portrait, Twilight, Twilight & Portrait, Twilight with Tripod and Portrait. Intelligent Scene Recognition has two different modes, advanced and auto. Advanced mode takes two shots, one with the standard automatic settings and the other with optimized settings. Auto mode takes a single shot, arbitrarily deciding on the proper setting.

Multi-resizing function Resize your photos in-camera for virtually any purpose! Standard 4:3 images can be resized to widescreen 16:9 and 2 MP resolution for display on an HDTV. Conversely, high resolution, widescreen 16:9 images can be resized to 4:3 size with VGA (640 x 480) resolution -- perfect for sharing with friends and family via e-mail (internet connection required). A simple 4-direction touch-screen control also makes it easy to trim photos.

Photo music Expanding the HD Slide Show with Music feature, PhotoMusic combines images with music to produce fun and entertaining slide shows. The five standard visual effects (Simple, Basic, Nostalgic, Active and Stylish) have been supplemented for a total of eight effects. Additionally, the number of music tracks stored in the camera memory has been doubled from four to eight, and music playback time has been extended from three to five minutes per track. More personalized slide shows are also possible by transferring music from a PC to the camera.

Photo TV HD PhotoTV HD compatibility allows the camera to be connected to a PhotoTV HD-capable Sony Bravia HDTV via the optional HD output adaptor, for highly detailed, high-definition color images displayed in unprecedented realism and full HD quality.

Picture Motion Browser software Supplied software makes it easier to upload, organize, and search photos on your PC. When shooting photos using your camera and an optional GPS unit, the software even provides a convenient map view function that lets you sort photos by location and display their origin on a world map.

Simple Icon Setup Controls To the left and right of the image area on your widescreen display, simple icons allow quick touch-screen operation of essential camera functions. The icons can be switched off to provide a full 16:9 widescreen view of your photos -- and the on-screen Function Guide display helps you learn camera setup operations.

Smile Shutter mode Smile Shutter mode helps you capture smiles automatically as they happen. Used in conjunction with Face Detection technology, Smile Shutter is able to differentiate between children and adults, and can be set to automatically shoot a picture when your subject laughs, smiles, or even grins -- only when focus is fixed. You select the person to watch and the expression to catch -- your Cyber-shot camera does the rest!

Sony Double Anti-Blur Solution The combination of Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and high ISO sensitivity helps compensate for shaky hands, minimizes blur, and allow flash-free shooting to preserve the mood.

Stamina Battery Power Provides extended battery life and shooting capacity when using a fully charged Lithium Ion battery-- enough to cover a long weekend or a whole vacation.

Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilization Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization compensates for shaky hands and minimizes blur with optical sensors that detect camera movement and send correcting signals to a stabilization lens -- so there’s no need to crop in on your shot to reduce blur.

Wide Zoom Display To use the entire image area of the camera’s widescreen LCD and compatible HDTV screens, Wide Zoom automatically expands standard 4:3 images to 16:9.

Camera5
i bought this camera a little while ago and i love it. it let's me do so many cool thing that just make the rest of the family jealous. i would recommend this camera if you like the Sony Brand for camera.

Worth every penny5
This camera is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I use to buy the cheaper model digital cameras and always gripe about red eye or blurry pictures or I couldn't see the pics on the back of the camera. NO more. You can Definately see the pics you take and all the features on this thing. I'm constantly finding cool new little capabilities this thing can do. Reviewing a picture that was taken and then touch screening it to zoom in left or right etc was great. And the smile capture was pretty funny to use and it worked great. I let some of my friends that are known for taking the worse pictures and it even stepped in and made sure they couldn't even take a bad picture. Great low light capability. Trust me you will not be disappointed with this picture. Buy, buy, buy it.

Sony Cybershot DSCT300/R1
If you're looking for a camera that is fast and easy and still takes great pictures, this is not the one for you. Cool camera, but shootings modes take too long to switch between, especially when you're trying to catch a 2 yr old in her cutest moments..

3 DIFFERENT MECHANICAL PROBLEMS2
I actually have a different model, the 6.0 MP version purchased 2 1/2 years ago. But it looks exactly the same, so the mechanicals are probably the same. It was a great little camera while it lasted. Great pictures and great battery life. And as far I'm concerned, 6 MP is all I (and probably most people) really need.

After exactly 12 mos the rotary function switch started to act up, switching between adjacent modes unless I kept pressure on it with my finger. It got worse with time. Then I had the apparently common "stuck lens problem"; the fix is to bang it on the table, which worked. Then, last week, the shutter button broke off while it was in my wifes purse.

So I'm in the market for a new camera; it won't be another Sony.

Great Price, Without Sacrificing Performance5
The DSC-W55 was my first Digital Camera and wow, what an impressive first camera to own.

The picture quality is very good, it takes pictures fast, and I put an 8 GB card into it and I can take almost 2 hours of video. The video feature really does make this a video camera as well, high quality and such.

Sony DSC-W55 Camera is junk1
This is my second camera of this model. I loved the first one I bought last year, but dropped it on the kitchen counter about 12 inches and the lens stopped working. I was quoted $150 to repair it, and instead opted to buy the same model again because it took great photos and thinking the first camera was a lemon. Six months into owning the 2nd camera, the lens quit ejecting. In addition to cheap plastic parts on the sides, this will be my last Sony camera.

From the Manufacturer
In silver, black, pink, or light blue, the DSC-W55 is a stand-out choice for style-conscious start-out or step-up camera customers who appreciate real value and advanced technology. 7.2 MP imaging, Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens and high sensitivity combine to capture clear, high-detail images even in low light--and with up to 380-shot2 Stamina battery power, 56 MB internal memory capacity and large 2.5-inch LCD screen, the DSC-W55 is ideal for family memories at home or on the road.

7.2-Megapixel Super HAD CCD
More megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

Carl Zeiss 3x Optical Zoom Lens Design
A top-quality Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens design helps the DSC-W55 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots quickly for better composition--a real advantage for family sports, outdoor fun and travel photos.

Large 2.5-Inch LCD Screen
The DSC-W55 provides a large, bright LCD screen for composing shots, checking results, sharing your photos on location and reading camera setup menus even in full sunlight.

High Sensitivity Mode
With high sensitivity of ISO 1000, the DSC-W55 gives you better shots in low light so you can shoot without flash to preserve the mood--great for birthday parties, indoor gatherings and candid portraits.
